“The best ramen in the Australia!" It’s a pretty big call to make for a hole-in-the-wall caff on Adelaide Street. But they might be on to something. Ramen master Taro has even brought his own equipment out from Japan for the firm wheat noodles that knot and spoon against slices of roast Bangalow pork in a rich, bright and clarified porky soup. Try your tonkotsu ramen with a blob of house-made chilli sauce (they claim it “pushes away the porky nose”). And because it doubles as what is ostensibly a divey sandwich shop, you can also get a Chiko roll or a chicken schnitzel sandwich. (If you're feeling guilty about ordering the latter, just think of it as a chicken katsu.) If you’re up for it, settle in for an Orion beer or make like those Gaijin business men and Japanese schoolgirls who are in here at 11.30am and order a hot green tea. Is Taro’s the best in Australia? Maybe not. But it’s certainly the best in Brisbane.
