Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

Melbourne, with all its glorious nooks and crannies, was built for cavorting. Here's when and where to make your overtures. To whom is your concern...

Valentine's Day tasting menu at Saint Crispin

Chefs Joe Grbac and Scott Pickett have lovingly prepared a V-Day tasting menu – plus there's the added attraction here of being able to duck upstairs for a beverage at Thomas Olive. Their five course menu of local bounty is a super reasonable $160 per person, including a complimentary champagne on arrival. Collingwood.

Valentine's Day tasting menu at Saigon Sally

Chef Adrian Li has been putting a sassy spin on modern Vietnamese at Saigon Sally since 2013. We salivated reading the menu he's pulled together for Valentine's Day – the Cray Cray Curry with W.A crayfish tail, sweet potato, kale, turmeric and coconut steamed rice is totally floating our boat. Windsor.

Valentine's Day menu at Ms Collins

It starts with an international street food menu concocted by some celebrated chefs, ie. Jacques Reymond, Paul Wilson (Icebergs), Dan Wilson (Huxtable) and Riccardo Momesso (Valentino). Throw into the mix some party decadence starting with Phat Thursdays (R&B) and V Day's a festival. Melbourne.

Valentine's Day at Fatto

It's amore at this little piece of Italy this Valentine's Day. Celebrate with a three course Italian feast and a glass of Prosecco for $80 per person. Book a terrace table for proper romance. Southbank.

Valentine's Day and eskimo kisses

Ice Bar Melbourne and its Inuit restaurant next door make for a cool Valentine's Day – it's the perfect opportunity to stay close (under the pretense of selflessly keeping someone else warm). Southbank.

Valentine's Day at Mesa Verde

Spending Valentine's Day somewhere hot and stylish is not a bad shout – Mesa Verde fits the bill, offering a five course Mexican feast paired with drinks at $110 per head. Melbourne.

Love at First Bite at the Langham

The Langham's Melba Restaurant has prepared a special menu for V-Day built around foods synonymous with gettin' it on (think chocolate, strawberries, cocktails, seafood as well as some downright spicy fare). Southbank.

Valentine's Day menu at Saké Restaurant and Bar

Saké, tucked away under Hamer Hall and overlooking the Yarra, is one of our iconic Japanese restaurants. To celebrate Valentine's Day it's concocted a five course shared tasting delight. $99 per person includes a glass of champers on arrival. Southbank.

Five in Five: #daretodate

It's a date with a cause! Challenge at least three of your mates to date a different person over the course of five weeks. If they bail, balk or are otherwise taken, they have to cough up. Last year's event raised a whopping 70 grand for homelessness and saw relationships blossom, a couple of marriages and one Five in Five baby. Southbank.

Vegan-tine's Feast

Just because you're vegan doesn't mean you should miss out on Valentine's Day. Already catering to mind, body and soul, Mantra Lounge's going to cater to the romantic as well this Saturday. Happily for those who don't eat stuff with a face or a mum, it also marks the start of expanded weekend hours. Carlton.

Tinder Party

Cocktails and Tinder at Nieuw Amsterdam could be a right goer for Valentine's Day if you're footloose and fancy free. Flash your app at the bar for a free cocktail. For all your right-swipers out there, we've put together a list of best places for Tinder dates. God speed and good luck.

Something different: anti-Valentine's Day fun

Munich Brauhaus - Valenstein's Day

It doesn't have to be about roses and chocolates – why not celebrate Valentine's Day by sinking beers with your mates. While they're pitching this at dudes, we can't see why ladies can't attend – chicks dig beer too. South Wharf.

Summer Sounds 2015

In Hobsons Bay, summer weekend afternoons mean food, friends, family and free music. This week in Williamstown will feature Pierce Brothers, Gena Rose Bruce and Robbie Bundle. There'll also be quality food joints, so if you forget your picnic, your belly’s needs will surely be covered. Just make sure you bring a rug or comfy chair upon which to lounge. Melbourne.

Rhythm of Africa at Werribee Zoo

Spend your Saturday night under a setting African sun, at Werribee Zoo's family friendly evening of live music.  The program features both contemporary and traditional African jams, along with drumming workshops so you too can learn how to keep a beat. You're also invited to explore the zoo’s walking trails. Werribee South.

Hawker's Bazaar

Over 60 stall holders are set to take over the Riverwalk under a glittering canopy of lights and lanterns for the next two weekends in celebration of Chinese New Year. Explore Asian delicacies, catch a cooking demonstration and check out traditional music and arts and crafts. Southbank.

100% Phat Block Party

A hip-hop block party in Howler's amazing beer garden: sounds like Sunday afternoon perfection to us. The 100% Phat DJ crew is returning with world-class beat-makers, including DJ I-DEE, Brooklyn's X-Ecutioner and Total Eclipse (pictured). The whole business is free. Brunswick.

Piknic Electronik

Boutique house and techno event Piknic Electronik has been roaming all over Melbourne lately for a series of sun-drenched dance sessions. This week, they're heading to Testing Grounds in Southbank with an all-star local lineup of Otologic, Jesse Young, Edd Fisher, Kris Baha and an as-yet unannounced special guest. Southbank.
