Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

Animation isn’t just DreamWorks and Disney, it’s an art form. The Melbourne International Animation Festival is out to prove it to the masses by showing off 400 films from more than 35 countries.

This festival is both for creators and consumers. For the former there are more than 40 programs including a 'careers in animation' seminar, animation 101 forums in which you can meet the makers, a music video forum, workshops and master classes in everything from coding to story writing. There are some interesting names, too: Andrew Davies of Studio Moshi and Adam Elliot – creator of the Academy Award-winning short film Harvie Crumpet among them.

For consumers there are showcases from around the world, a program for the kids, art installations and tons more. Judges have sifted through nearly 3000 entries to bring you some of the best short films from around the world, so you're probably going to need all 11 days.
