The blockbuster fashion festival of the year returns to Melbourne

The 2015 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival promises to be the best yet, with runway thrills, model moments and, of course, amazing local designers packed in to nine days of nonstop fashion fun.

Over 100 Australian and international designers will participate in 20 runway events, including showcases by Alex Perry, Dion Lee and up-and-coming label Celeste Tesoriero, while emerging local designers will again be given the opportunity to take their first steps in the industry through the Future Runway and National Graduate Showcase programs.

In 2015, five labels – including Melbourne's own Verner and búl – will vie for the prestigious National Designer Award, previously won by the likes of Josh Goot, Romance Was Born and Yeojin Bae.

The prelude to the festival includes a month-long cultural program of fashion-inspired events, including the Fashion Film Series and a new mentorship program to support budding fashion writers, journalists and bloggers.

Below, we've cherrypicked our top events from the 2015 program.
