The blockbuster fashion festival of the year returns to Melbourne
The 2016 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival promises to be the best yet for another eclectic mix of fashion, beauty and models as the hottest Australian and international designers place their collections on show once again.
While you can expect the usual fare of highly revered and upcoming local talent, the festival will include an exciting mix of events never seen in previous years, from premium runways to cultural programs and mentoring sessions for talented fashion writers.
Catch internationally renowned Australian designer Dion Lee in a one off showcase of his solo collection, or attend one of the hottest parties of the season to mingle with models, designers and celebrities at The Festival Plaza.
Below, we've cherrypicked our top events from the 2015 program.
1. Fashion and Beyond
The Festival's cultural program will begin the festival celebrations, starting one month before the Fashion Festival on February 13. Events will be held across Melbourne and regional Victoria to highlight the versitility of fashion in the realms of art, design and, film, writing and more.
2. Celebrating 200 years of Australian Fashion
Discover how the Australian landscape and history has transformed fashion over the past 200 years. Designers have responded to the harsh Australian environment, resources and international trends in an inspiring way that has come to shape what we now know as Australian fashion.
3. Marilyn Monroe
The personal collection of one of the world's most iconic film stars, Marilyn Monroe, will be on display at the Bendigo Art Gallery as part of VAMFF's Cultural Program. View costumes, clothing and artefacts owned by Marilyn Monroe from March to July 2016.
4. Runways 1-7
Witness the hottest labels to hit runways 1-7, as more than 100 designers join Dion Lee, Scanlan Theodore, STRATEAS. CARLUCCIi, Thurley, Yeojin Bae and Bec and Bridge to showcase their latest designs. With more designer announcements to be made, these world class runways are not to be missed.
5. Tiffany & Co. National Designer Award
Australia's most talented up and coming designers will contend for the most prestigious title that has launched the careers of many world renowned designers including Dion Lee, Yeojin Bae and Josh Goot. Stay tuned for the fulll list of finalists.
