Walking tours led by former homeless people provide a unique view of the city, as part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival
While much of the Melbourne Fringe Festival involves blowing your mind, there’s one event that’s likely to both blow your mind and ignite your social conscience.
Street Stories are walking tours with a difference. Led by people who have experienced homelessness, they offer a chance to see pockets of the city that might usually go unnoticed, as well as provide a unique insight into the daily experience of a homeless person in Melbourne. Street Stories aims to empower guides coming out of homelessness by providing them with an opportunity to engage with the broader community through sharing their stories and experiences. All profits from ticket sales will go to the tour guides.
Street Stories is one of several projects of the University of Melbourne SIFE. The guides have been found through a program run by Council to Homeless Persons called Peer Education Support Program.
