Tonight’s the kickoff for the summer series of free classical concerts at the Music Bowl. Two of Russia’s greatest composers, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov, go head-to-head with the conducting of Simon Hewett and singing of soprano Antoinette Halloran. What better background is there for a picnic than Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin and Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances?
