It's Bastille Day! Time for wine and some frilly pantaloon action
Bastille Day at Bistro Vue |
|

Bistro Vue is offering special three course lunches all week. And, to mark the actual day, diners will begin with an aperitif before partaking in a delectable four-course meal paired with matching wines, while a trio serenade the room. |
Bastille Day at Embrasse |
|

It's business as usual at Embrasse. Artist/chef Nic Poelaert, will be doing his typical immaculate French-Australian dishes, making this a tamer option if you're not keen on going the full can-can. You will need to order the degustation, being a Saturday, but it's a steal at $95 for five flower-strewn courses. |
Bastille Day at the French Brasserie |

Thankfully, the chefs have translated this six-course degustation menu so you won't have to ask what ‘ragoût de lotte â la niçoise’ or ‘tièle sétoise’ means. Whether the promised entertainment is knicker-kicking or some accordion warbling is under wraps. |
Bastille Day at Libertine |
|
![]() |
Bastille Day is Libertine’s “favourite and most elaborate night of the year”. Who'd have thunk it? In preparation, they're plucking game birds, dissecting haunches of venison and shucking oysters. It's going to be a doosey, especially when everything comes matched with such vineous fun as aged French wines straight from the magnum. |
Bastille Day at Livingroom |

Don your stripes for this five-course feast, pairing the likes of chicken chasseur and a leek and roquefort tart with imported French wines. Full wine matching is $134, but you can mix and match or skip the lot for food only at $80. |
Bastille Day at The European |
|

Oenophiles, take note. Each course of this extensive French dinner is paired with French drops from Sauternes to an Alsatian Riesling. After five glasses of vino, you’ll be shouting "vive la France" with the best of them. |
Bastille Day at PM24 |
|

Philippe Mouchel is focussing on a more rustic regional feast, paired with wine or (quelle horreur!) beer, cider or soft drinks at the restaurant’s huge communal table. French entertainment will be provided throughout the night. |
Bastille Day at Mr Mason |
|
![]() |
Everything sounds more delicious in French. Would you rather eat ‘petits pois avec lettuce chiffonade’ or ‘peas and shredded lettuce’? Exactly. A banquet also sounds decidedly better than 'a spread', and since Mr Mason's features stuffed'n'glazed quails, it probably is. |
Bastille Day at Red Bennies |
|
![]() |
If you would prefer a Bastille Day where you’re not having to spend your time nibbling croissants with the rest of the aspiring French crowd, Louis’s Last Party promises to be a wild night. Get amongst the razzle-dazzle with the can-can dancers from the Moulin Rouge, Cirque du Soleil artist Daniel Powers and the Cartell Crew dropping some French 60s pop. |
Bastille Day at the NGV |
|
![]() |
From 5pm to midnight you can ramble around the Napoleon exhibition for just $10, where there'll be live entertainment, activities, tours and talks. There'll even be delectable French food, like crepes, pastries, cheeses and wines to munch on in the Tea Rooms, the Gallery Kitchen and Federation Court. |
Bastille Day at Evening Star |
|

Ain't no party like a revolution themed party. Not according to the South Melbourne massif at least. Inspired by the French peoples love of revelry, beauty and decadence, the team at Evening Star (seafood superstar eatery at the South Melbourne Markets) are throwing a street party shindig from 3pm with stilt walkers, crepes, poetry readings and as much Amelie style ambience as you can handle. |
