Presented by Look. Stop. Shop., a City of Melbourne initiative, a large range of events are available to the public throughout Melbourne Spring Fashion Week and to the end of September. Activities include exhibitions, workshops, films, runways, and more, allowing a deeper understanding of Melbourne's fashion, retail and design networks. From shopfront displays, to hands on creating your own garments, it will be a fashion frenzy as we prepare to launch ourselves into the warmer seasons. Check the link for the official programme.

Must-see events of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week:

Feeling a bit overwhelmed by all that’s on offer for this year’s fashion week? That’s understandable: there are literally dozens of events, showcases, catwalks, workshops, panels and more. But what are the things that most tickle you, the Melbournefashion enthusiast? Andrea Rhodes selects her picks of the oh-so-stylish litter.

MSFW@City Square

City Square

It’s the hub of the Fashion Week experience with a different programme each day. If you’re feeling spoilt for choice, let the choice come to you in the form of runways, demonstrations and workshops, featuring many of the big Spring Fashion Week names giving their insights and showing off their goods. Each day is different and there’s bound to be something to catch your eye.

Made in Melbourne

Showtime Events Centre

Eight of Melbourne’s best up-and-coming designers showcase their talents in what’s not just a chance to catch the wave of the future, but also – in an innovative first – allow you to purchase pieces right then and there via a downloadable QR code reader specifically designed for the event. Yes, it’s a little dangerous being able to buy stuff on your phone right from the catwalk, so maybe hand your phone to a pal during the event…

Asia Pacific Fashion Runway

Spice Market

See what’s happening in the region as designers from Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Latin America and more show off their latest clothing lines across two runways. And after the show, you can pick up these designer pieces at special exclusive prices.

Tailoring School

CAE

For some people, of course, just looking at the fashions isn’t enough: it’s all about getting hands on. For you creative folks, might we suggest signing up for this course with venerable designer, tailor and cutter Bill Woodhouse, who will take you through marking out, cutting, sewing and finishing techniques for a jacket, trousers and shirt. It’s not for beginners – you’ll need to know how to sew – but if you’re looking to get to the next step, you can develop the skills to play with Bill’s.

Keeping it Together: The return of the Tie Bar

Lord Coconut

Nothing says “mad class” like the tie bar – or, as many gentlemen call it, “the thing what you use to clasp the tie to the front of your shirt, you know? That”. And any clown could go pick one up from a department store – or you could hit up Lord Coconut and check out their range of contemporary, handcrafted pieces.

Worn Wild: Alternative Designers Market

Queensberry Hotel

Or maybe you want something a bit more off-the-beaten-path? Worn Wild is celebrating five years of celebrating Melbourne’sfashion subcultures, with everything from off-the-rack to one-off custom pieces, all at special Spring Fashion Week prices. And it’s not just couture: there’s also jewellery, accessories, and homeware, plus hair and body art.
