This ceremony will take place at the War Memorial Commemorative Stone. Epping RSL Sub-Branch members will be conducting the service and attendees are encouraged to bring a small floral tribute in memory of a loved one, which can be placed at the memorial.
There are few things more Aussie than having a pie at the footy. The annual ANZAC Day clash between Essendon and Collingwood is one of the AFL’s biggest events of the year outside of the finals season. Before the game, a ceremony is held to pay tribute to the those that served, and afterwards, one player is awarded with the ANZAC Medal for showing qualities that align with the ANZAC spirit.
Flemington Racecourse is running an eight-race programme, highlighted by VRC St Leger. The day will feature an ANZAC ceremony that will take place in the mounting yard, with all returned servicemen and women invited to participate in the service.
This gambling game is only legal on ANZAC Day. Brought over to Australia as ‘pitch and toss’ by the English and Irish, it was rife through the gold rush days and equally popular with soliders during World War I. As a result it’s become synonymous with April 25, during which pubs across the country will host games.
