The Emerging Writers’ Festival is coming to town again for its 10th year. Across 11 days a raft of wordy events will pique the interest of poets, bloggers, novelists, and other wordsmiths. Combining an industry conference with parties, workshops, panels, performances and networking events, the festival is set to bring emerging writers of all stripes into contact with established writers and industry professionals.
Novelist, columnist and damn funny writer Benjamin Law will be hosting the Emerging Writers Festival’s version of Q&A with Khairani ‘Okka’ Barokka, Lisa Dempster, Elmo Keep, Matrin McKenzie Murray and Simon Tedeschi as his guests.
There are plenty of writers out there who consider themselves rock stars, but we think it is exceptionally awesome when a musician decides to put down their microphone/guitar/drumsticks and wield a pen.
Writers and illustrators will tell tales of close encounters with the animal kingdom. Sound artist Michael Prior has put together a soundtrack of wild animal noises to accompany the stories throughout the evening.
Presented by Sweatshop Western Sydney Literacy Movement in association with the University of Western Sydney Writing & Society Research Centre exclusively for the Emerging Writers Festival, Sweat Shop Stories sees eight powerful writers reveal the truths about Sydney’s west.
