Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

What better place to meet the director of a skate documentary than at a skate park? Marten Persiel’s This Ain’t California documents skateboarding culture in East Germany in the ’70s and ’80s, combining black-and-white home videos with propaganda footage. Persiel follows his three subjects to 2011, intertwining stories of skateboard culture with their experiences before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. This Ain’t California is appearing as a part of the Audi Festival of German Films and the Goethe-Institut Australien is putting on an event for fans (skaters or not) to meet Persiel at the Riverslide Skate Park.
