Time Out Melbourne

Do you have the attention span of a goldfish on speed? If the answer is yes then this could be the theatre festival for you

With the motto 'keep it brief', Short + Sweet Festival has assembled writers, directors, choreographers and performers, both emerging and established and given them just ten minutes in which to shine.

With performances across theatre, dance and cabaret, creating an arts experience of epic proportions, Short + Sweet will see up to 300 artists participating new works performed over two weeks. From seriously funny to sweetly serious, the festival will be offering up hip-hop, hope, laughter, a ukulele, and a little bit of magic, in bite-sized pieces.

There will be over 100 performances and highlights of the programme include Simon Coronel, whose naughty magic piece involves a Rubik's cube and a jelly snake; the festival's youngest-ever choreographer, 13-year-old hip-hop dancer Gabriella Petkov and cabaret star Kate Allnutt in Imagine Nation, where music from Willy Wonka provides a whimsical backdrop to her story of being a child-like dreamer in an adult world.
