Time Out Melbourne

We ask local luminaries to describe their neighbourhood. This month, street artist-turned-Archibald Prize Winner Luke Cornish on Brunswick

Where do you hang out in Brunswick?
Usually at The Cornish for a beer. Venturing further, I also like Workshop in the city.

What made you move there?
I moved to Melbourne for my art because there is more opportunity here that I was missing out on in Canberra.

What are the best and worst things about the area?
I like that it’s alternative and grungy. The thing I don’t like is that I think there are too many nut jobs.

How does it rank in terms of street art?
I think it’s got an eclectic mix of street art. Probably one of the more vibrant areas for street art in Melbourne after the city.

Who are your favorite artists from the area?
I’m a big fan of Be Free and AWOL Crew.

Does any of your less official artwork adorn the streets of Brunswick?
I haven’t really gotten up very much in Brunswick because I work out of Richmond so I usually put things up in the city.

What’s Brunswick missing?
A few more galleries would be nice.
