With a fantastic firework display lined up, we’ve put together some of the best (and free) vantage points to ring in the New Year

Fed Square

Federation Square is the place to be if you want a great atmosphere combined with awesome views; bursting with live entertainment, from a 10-piece West African dancing band to DJ Watsui and Wickid Force Breakers, who'll be breaking, locking and popping, things will heat up from 10.45pm.

Flagstaff Gardens, Treasury Gardens and Docklands

Channel 7 will be broadcasting the City of Melbourne Fireworks Spectacular live from these spots but to get in amongst the action head down to one of the three live sites and enjoy DJ sets from Ennio Styles and Hippopotamus Rex among others. With pyrotechnics and entertainment galore, combined with a stunning backdrop of the city, these sites make for perfect firework viewing.

Yarra Park

If you have a curfew, this is the place to go. Created with families in mind, let the kids loose to enjoy face-painting, dressing up, rides and karaoke along with plenty of musical entertainment to keep you big kids happy too. Fireworks commence at 9.30pm and you’ll be tucked up in bed before you have the chance to say “happy new year”.

Albert Park

Want to be far from the madding crowd? Albert Park boasts 225 ha of beautiful parkland including that picturesque lake – perfect for reflecting sky sparkles. Other necessary facilities to make your evening go smoothly include picnic tables, playgrounds and toilets.

Southbank

With views that are second to none, Southbank offers a great combination of wining, dining and firework admiring. However, this great spot is no secret and each year thousands of people flock to watch the firework spectacular along the Yarra River. If it’s dinner and drinks you’re after, make sure you reserve your place a.s.a.p.
