How does Pure Pop Trivia work?
The subject of all questions is music, which is mostly rock and pop, but can include TV and movie music, musical instruments, orchestral – anything to do with music.
What kind of punter do you tend to attract?
St Kilda locals, music lovers and people who like a laugh or two.
How would you describe your hosting style?
In terms of fashion, most people would probably describe my style as “whatever was on top of the laundry pile”. In terms of hosting, let’s say “informal”, “we’re not playing for sheep stations”, “a fast game is a happy game”, and “somewhat drunker as the evening progresses”.
If you had to single out your most fiendishly brilliant question, what would it be?
There are two favourites: (1) How many members did the Dave Clark Five have? and (2) Who were they named after?
What have some of the best team names been?
There have been many elaborate (and needlessly lengthy) team names at Pure Pop, but the perennial favourite is William Shatner’s Pants.
What do winners get?
Winners (also the team finishing second, and the team finishing in the “encouragement position” – i.e. last) receive drink vouchers of varying value from Pure Pop. We’re the last of the big spenders.
Please complete the following sentence: “By the end of the evening, our trivia night has descended into…”
Various players yelling requests to the beleaguered host to repeat questions for the final, or video, round, which he has only just repeated in response to another request from a different player; and/or shouted requests to explain the number of points that questions are worth immediately following a detailed explanation from the host about how much questions are worth.
