60 seconds with… Catherine Deveny

Spend 60 seconds with Melburnian comedian and writer Catherine Deveny

Who are your favourite Melburnians?
Daniel Burt, Marieke Hardy, Adam Elliot, Clare Bowditch, Barry Jones, Jess McGuire, Shaun Tan, Germaine Greer, Max Gilles, Stephanie Alexander, Rod Quantock.

You’ve got three kids under the age of 12. What are the best Melburnian activities for that age group?
Beatbox burgers, RRR, Readings Bookstore, Cinema Nova, A1 Bakery, Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Ceres, Trades Hall, A Minor Place, Gelobar, The Great Hall at the NGV, Merri Creek, Sydney Road – particularly Savers.

What are your feelings on Occupy?
Becoming Lord Mayor is the consolation prize for power-trippers with ambition but no talent. What I don't understand is how can the peaceful Occupy Melbourne protesters be removed but the anti-abortion protesters around the corner at Fertility Control Clinic, where a security guard was shot dead, can't?

Brilliant, brave and hilarious Melbourne girls Marieke Hardy and Clare Bowditch talk about their vivid, messy, unconventional and exhilarating lives with Catherine Deveny at Bella Union on Nov 20: how they do it and the times they almost didn't!

I would add Beatrice Faust and Ron Barassi to favouite Melburnians, and suggest Black Rock beach as a place for under 12s - shallows and rocks.
