Next Wave brings nine days’ worth of artsy cheer to Melbourne this May
Next Wave is more than a festival. As then team plan the festival two years in advance they invite a few dozen young artists to develop and present works in the city, often outside the confines of gallery walls. “Allowing something to develop over two years is really special,” says artistic director Emily Sexton. “It can be challenging for people to have so much time as well. But as you become more established then you allow yourself time to enrich your ideas. And that’s how Next Wave impacts young artists – it’s showing them a way of working that has depth.”
