Melbourne's position as art capital of Australia is reaffirmed by the next generation of artists
It's Melbourne vs Sydney yet again as the artists of Melbourne take to their tools to make sure that the extent of exhibitions in the city isn't beaten by their fiercest rival. This month, Sydney is holding more than 206 exhibitions to Melbourne's 150, and Steve Lees and Stephanie Mermigas are not happy about it.
Lees and Mermigas are exhibiting their works at Goodtime Studios this weekend in a show called Sex, Lies and Candy. Their paintings are about experience and sexuality. Mermigas paints joyful, hyperrealistic works. Lees creates portraiture depicting raw human emotion.
Twenty-four pieces will be on display, and a live collaborative work will also be produced by the pair in just an hour on the opening night of May 31.
