Hey Melbourne! If any part of you has the desire to put a combination of liquors into your personage in a medley known as a cocktail, you're in all kinds of luck.
Fitzroy fun house the Black Pearl has just pulled in a double nomination at the 2012 Spirited Awards (pretty much the holy grail of cocktail awards) for World's Best Cocktail List – and if you've ever had the pleasure of consuming their menu, either with your eyes or mouth, you'll likely agree – as well as a finalist spot for World's Best Cocktail Bar.
An understandably hungover Chris Hysted from the Pearl has had about two hours sleep and yet can't hide the enthusiasm. "This is the dream nomination. We've been working so hard over ten years and all of a sudden these awesome cats of 'tails think we're cool, so we're stoked."
Meanwhile, a few blocks away on Gertrude Street, the ever elegant speakeasy-style Everleigh, with all the quiet grace and poise of a southern gentleman, is a top ten finalist for 'World's Best New Cocktail Bar'. Plus, Everleigh owner Michael Madrusan is nominated for the International Bartender of the Year.
So raise your coupettes to these Melbourne bars drink fans, or better yet, get them to fill 'em for you.
And if you want to see the Pearl's finest in action, Chris Hysted and Dan Gregory will be competing in the World Class Competition this Sunday. Book it in.
