When Scott Dewar thinks ‘Yarra Valley’, he thinks of beer, not wine. “Beer is the greatest thing humans have done, bar none,” he firmly believes. He started Aussie Brewery Tours a year ago to back up this bold statement. Dewar visits at least five to six of the trail’s breweries on every trip. You may start at White Rabbit with an in-depth talk and a breakfast pint, and move to brewery-cum-restaurant Hargreaves Hill for char-grilled Black Angus skewers along with – yup – a paddle of beer and a pint of your choice. You’ll get an appreciation of the Yarra in all its diversity – from small towns like Yarra Glen and Healesville, to the rolling countryside surrounding Napoleone & Co. You’ll also get to drink items you normally wouldn’t see outside of a cellar door (like Kelly Bros’ champagne cider). It’s a mobile beer school – get on board.
