Time Out Melbourne

Soho cocktails hit Windsor, and we reckon this Kid is all right

While the rest of Melbourne star spangles itself stupid with USA inspired '50s diner tat and '30s speakeasy hoohaa, Kid Boston is modeling itself on everything that is awesome about New York City right now. Namely: mod-art, mod-snacks and re-jigged cocktail classics. You’ll want to try the Earl Grey martini (tea infused gin, lemon, egg white, syrup), which manages to be all fluff and flowers without getting sticky and sweet. Or how about a tequila Manhattan? You’re looking at a slug of reposado tequila, Cinzano Rosso (vermouth) and agave syrup with a lemon twist – it’s every bit as good as it is not-a-Manhattan. Do the date thing beneath a hanging palm at one of two-tops lining the wall, or grab a seat at the bar if you’re after a chat. Owner Ryan Simpson has that rare ability to take your coat, pinpoint the drink you want from 50 paces and crack a joke all without skipping a beat. From here, you’ll also have a birds eye view of the delicious things they’re doing with pig, from pork crackling crisps to little batter-coated balls of soft belly with a date purée. In summer, it’s all about sipping one of their eclectic selection of beers (Boddingtons!) and watching the Chapel Street traffic totter by on stilettos. Whodathunk the same country to produce the Kardashians could also inspire such great bars? God bless America.
