When it comes to tales of Melbourne's famous music scene under assault from The Man, it's always The Tote that folks leap to defend first. Fair enough, it's an awesome venue and one that deserved saving, but it's not the only warrior in town.
The Empress Hotel has been battling noise complaints from fuddy duddy neighbours since the 80s. A crusty old stalwart, it deserves to share the crown as perhaps Queen to the Tote's King of live music. Silverchair started off right here.
