Brace yourself for a festival of mentally stimulating deliciousness
Those philanthropically minded chaps behind Cake Wines have revealed the location, dates and times of their Melbourne pop up bar. Fitzroy, say hello to your new, short term lodgers. They will be bringing art, music, talks, film, culture, food, and most importantly, wine, when they come to stay for the month of August.
There's a party for your mind and mouth every day. These guys seamlessly unite wine and awesome, so don't expect your typical tastings. On the 13th, they'll be screening the epic music doco on Rodriguez (Searching for Sugarman) followed by the School of Life's popular How to Have Better Conversations seminar – which, considering our idea of improving conversations is always to add wine, makes sense. On the 15th you can see the incredible art doco Bill Cunningham's New York. Wax'o Paradiso will be holding a record fair on the 23rd and following it up on the 24th with a DJ session featuring Tornado Wallace and Andy Hart.
Even when it is primarily about the wine – like on the 10th when they're launching an organic shiraz made by up-and-coming winemaker Richie Harkham as part of their Young Wine Maker Series – they up the ante by throwing 30Kg of prawns into the equation, and bring it home with performances by Sui Zhen and Olympia.
Many events are free and if you register you can even score some complimentary wines.
For one month, this is undoubtedly going to be the most culturally stimulating wine bar in town. They're here for a good time, not a long time so don't dawdle.
Cake Wines pop-up bar is open between Aug 8-31.
