Welcome to the only bar in Melbourne where the dream of smoking inside lives on

The 2007 smoking ban almost put a stop to the sweet smoky good times you could have at this whisky and cigar bar. But luckily for those who love the feeling of leather under rump and stogie between finger and thumb, the owners found a loophole. Sign a waiver and become a member (for free, or for varying fees if you want discounts and even your own liquor cabinet), and you can spark up indoors with a single malt clutched in fist. The feeling of impunity is incredible, and what with all the Chesterfields and rich mahogany, in our minds this is exactly what it’s like drinking in an Embassy – or the ’50s.
The cigars and accessories are for sale here including humidors, snippers and lighters with a little extra chutzpah to get the job done. The whisky list is outstanding too. They have 350 single malts alone. Cognac comes in a close second, with a bunch of big, jammy red wines and craft beers bringing it all home. We don’t want to call this a gentleman’s club. We know plenty of women who love nothing better than a smoke and a Scotch, but gents reading the papers outnumber ladies on weeknights three to one. Sisters, take that as a call to arms. Everyone else, you don’t need any extra excuse to hit this joint for a sophisticated good time.
