The Kodiak bear is the world's largest brown bear, growing to an average weight of 533kg. Thank you, Wikipedia. But did you also know there's a bar in Fitzroy named after our toothy Alaskan friends? Yes, it's called the Kodiak Club and they are purveyors of some very fine snacks including poutine (you might know these cheese'n'gravy covered chips as disco fries), pork cracklin', deep-fried chicken wings and a Kraft Single toastie. But you're probably not here to eat - if we know anything at all, you're here for the drinks.
Beers and cider on tap are served in big red plastic college-style kegger cups. They have a really good selection of American whisky and they also stock Mexican grapefruit soda for their Palomas - the pride of Mexico. Ever had one? They're basically a tequila and soda pop with a salt rim. We'll be going back for a Lumberjack - Canadian Club, maple syrup, Averna, chocolate and orange bitters served on the rocks.
There's plenty of booth seating out the back but if you're keen to be amongst it and get involved take a seat at the big sturdy bar, complete with giant poster of the Rockies (bear included). They're a friendly lot here, and will even make you a Negroni and Coke without a blink. Go nice and early for a seat, or head down late in the evening to get properly involved.
