Forget the squawking blondes, walking wax dummies and jazz hands Hollywood serves up in the guise of “burlesque” via Christina Aguilera and Cher. Red Bennies is home to some of Melbourne’s most over-the-top underground burlesque artists. In August it’s Madame ‘Mama’ Natalia and her fiery femmes Foxtrot India, Poppy Cherry tearing down the walls of convention with a show of cabaret, burlesque, circus arts and comedy.
