The Melbourne Cabaret Festival almost didn’t happen this year. Despite the fact that it’s one of our country's fastest growing festivals, with a 37 percent increase in audience from 2010 to 2011, the organisters struggled to find the cash. Thankfully, they turned to crowdfunding and, with supporters like Geoffrey Rush, Amanda Palmer, Paul Capsis and Sammy J and Randy in their corner, raised over $18,000.
