Two words: cowboy tap-dancing. Or is that three? Either way, it’s an axis of dancing awesomeness seriously underrated in the dance lesson stakes. Clogging is style of folk dancing that comes from the Appalachian Mountains in the US. Or, as our instructor helpfully pointed out, it’s that crazy dance Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs did on the Beverly Hillbillies.
Those keen on channelling their inner hillbilly without venturing outside the city limits can seek out the wise tutelage of the Rainbow Cloggers gay and lesbian dance troupe. The classes are straight-friendly so I didn’t end up needing the female friend I dragged along as my beard, but my fake girlfriend and I still had ourselves a hot-diggity fun time stomping along to country music as the cloggers cheered us on.
