Dustin Hoffman makes his directorial debut with this British Film adapted by Ronald Harwood (The Pianist, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) from his own play. The plot centres on a retirement home for opera singers where three residents, Wilf (Billy Connolly), Reggie (Tom Courtenay) and Cissy (Pauline Collins) attempt to put on a concert to celebrate Verdi's birthday. The concert is thrown into disarray when Reggie’s ex-wife and former grande dame of opera, Jean (Maggie Smith), arrives at the home. This will be Hoffman’s first project since his HBO series Luck was canceled.
