Unlikely gangsters, silent runaways, Mafioso satire and more

The Lavazza Italian Film Festival again brings Italy's outstanding cinema, and – at least in their English translations – many with titles more evocative than most. I Can Quit Whenever I Want (Smetto Quando Voglio) has downsized academics turning their baroque skills to crime. South Is Nothing (Il Sud è Niente is a coming-of-age film centred on a barely speaking runaway and laced with magic realism. And The Mafia Only Kills In Summer (La Mafia Uccide Solo D'Estate), the first feature from TV satirist 'Pif', shows the organisation's pernicious influence via an everyday life.

The Medicine Seller
This suspenseful drama portrays the corrupt, cutthroat business of pharmaceuticals selling in which bribes and gifts are offered to doctors and pharmacists. Claudio Santamaria stars.

The Wonders
Winning the Grand Prix at Cannes this year, Alice Rohrwacher’s semi-autobiographical film about a family of beekeepers trying to preserve their way of life features Monica Bellucci and armfuls of sticky honey.

Zoran, My Nephew the Idiot
A multi-award-winning feelgood comedy, this is the story of a loser called Paolo (Giuseppe Battiston) who is unhappy to be landed with a super-awkward nephew until he discovers the kid’s freakish skill at darts.

I Can Quit Whenever I Want
This exuberant comedy traverses Breaking Bad territory, depicting a group of unemployed an downtrodden university graduates who team up to manufacture and distribute drugs.

Marriage Italian Style
The great Vittorio De Sica (Bicycle Thieves) directs this newly restored 1964 comedy in which Sophia Loren is the longtime mistress of a businessman (Marcello Mastroianni) who resorts to tricks so he can ensure he marries her.
