Time Out Melbourne

Everything from ramen to swordsmen for the festival's 18th year

You'll want to eat something before perusing this year's Japanese Film Festival, as they've gone big on cinema of food and drink. There's the based-on-a-true-story A Tale of Samurai Cooking, the intimate documentary God of Ramen, and the drama Ask This of Rikyu about the art of a famous Tea Master. The action-packed anime Rurouni Kenshin is returning, along with the Australian first-looks for its sequels, Kyoto Inferno andThe Legend Ends; also there's an anthology of four shorts by top anime directors called Short Peace – a project helmed by Akira's own Katsuhiro Otomo.
