Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

The best in recent Brazilian cinema will be screened in Melbourne this month

Sample a bit of Brazil's colourful culture with this selection of 12 feature films. The event, like the country's film industry, has grown at an exceptional rate, and this year the Brazil Film Festival is twice the size it was in 2011.

Brazil's ambassador will officially open the festival before a screening of Roberto Santucci's comedy Head Over Heels (Tue 15 Nov, 6pm). The film was nominated for both Best Actress and Best Screenplay for the 2011 Cinema Brazil Grand Prize.

Other films featured on the festival programme include Jefferson De's Bróder, which took out several gongs at last year's Gramado In´t Film Festival and Paulinia Film Festival; documentary film Tamboro, which sheds light on Brazil's diverse cultural and literal landscapes with beautiful imagery from the Amazon; and the surreal and humorous Reflections of a Blender.

5x Favela has been selected to close the festival and will be followed the after party.

For the full programme and to buy tickets visit the Brazil Film Festival website.
