Time Out Melbourne

Monster Fest is bringing the creepy goods again

Prepare to be shocked, scared and shaken by some of the best cult and horror cinema from around the globe. Also as part of the festival, Linda Blair, star of The Exorcist, will be heading to Melbourne to celebrate the movie’s 40th anniversary.

For those who love a bit of brutal Ozploitation, head to the world premiere of Foresight Killer, directed by Duncan Cunningham, who happens to be screen king Baz Luhrmann’s cousin. Monster Fest will also be hosting the world premieres of The Last Days of Joe Blow, directed by Richard Wolstencroft, and The Jungle, a feature by Andrew Traucki about killer big cats.

Mexican horror film Here Comes the Devil involves evil children. Conspiracy theorists will love The Banshee Chapter, which was voted the scariest film at London's Fright Fest, and tells a terrifying tale of government experiments and psychotropic drugs.

Both Apocalyptic and Beckoning the Butcher depict rural Australian horror, and if you love a big bug movie, check out Big Ass Spider. Want something weird? Head to Nuigurama Z, directed by Noboru Iguchi, and featuring teddy bears and gothic Lolitas.
