Radioactive romance, professional wrestling, Mads Mikkelsen, and more

Art shouldn’t be a contest – but if it was? The French might win cinema for the Lumière brothers alone. Here are just some of the titles the French Film Festival’s 25th anniversary has to offer:

It opens with the inspirational The Finishers, about a former sporting champion and his disabled son coming together for a triathlon. Grand Central uses the unlikely backdrop of a nuclear power station for a touching working-class romance. Michael Kohlhaas stars Mads Mikkelsen in an old-fashioned drama of a 16th century horse-dealer raising an army against the local aristocracy, and Our Heroes Died Tonight (Nos héros sont morts ce soir) is an atmosphere-heavy, story-light crime film set in the professional wrestling scene of 1960s Paris.
