Become an art detective, bake cupcakes and create your own sculptures at Heide these school holidays
Less than half an hour from the CBD is an immersive modern art gallery, a peaceful sculpture garden (featured the famous corrugated iron cows) and the best opportunity for kids to get stuck into art these school holidays. The Heide Museum has come up with some left-field activities designed to get kids engaging with the exhibition and exercising their creative minds. Many of the activities are free, but some are paid and require bookings. Sessions include:
Art Detective, Architecture Detective, Sculpture Detective and Visual Treasure Hunt Detective: Solve cryptic clues around the exhibition, buildings and sculpture park, complete the trail and win a prize from the lucky dip. Tue-Sun 10am-5pm. Free. Sat Jun 28-Sun Jul 13.

Far Rainbow: Inspired by Emily Floyd’s current exhibition of the same name, kids will use lino to print colourful artist’s proofs. 10am-noon. $25-$30. Fri Jul 4. Bookings essential. Ages five-12.
Ceramics.com: High school kids get the chance to build and glaze their own sculpture, with a URL or letters stamped onto it as decoration.10am-1pm. $25-$30. Tue Jul 8. Bookings essential. Ages 12-16.
Physics and Motion: This hands-on session explores rhythm and motion in sculpture, using motors, record players and more. 10am-noon. $25-$30. Thu Jul 10. Bookings essential. Ages five-12.

Milky moos: Family Day at Heide means lots of learning and plenty of fun. Families will be shown how to milk (a real) cow, separate cream and churn butter, which will inspire kids to create their own bovine-themed artwork. 10am-1pm. Free. Sun Jul 13. Ages five-12.
