Play, create and dance the school holidays away

Jewellery-making, pizza-making and African drumming: we wouldn’t expect anything less than these delightfully unusual activities for the Abbotsford Convent’s school holiday workshops. Their two-week program is packed with stimulating activities that kids can enjoy while you relax in the lush historic surrounds. 

Unlike previous programs, full-day workshops are available for busy parents, along with an affordable lunchbox option from the Convent Bakery ($20, book one day in advance).

Booking for each workshop is essential. Classes include:

Pizza-making with the Convent Bakery: The best part is that you get to eat your wood-fired pizza for lunch afterwards. 10am-noon. $15. Mon Jun 30 & Mon Jul 2. Ages four and over.

wePUBLISH with Kids’ Own Publishing. Conveniently, the Convent is the site for this innovative children’s publisher. Kids will visit the authors and illustrators and create their own book. 9am-3pm. $90. Tue Jul 1 & Thu Ju 10. Ages eight and over.

Beaded jewellery workshop: Create earrings, necklaces and bracelets to take home. 10am-noon. $65. Fri Jul 4 & Tue Jul 8. Ages six and over.

A Book of Me: Kids are encouraged to reflect on their interests, strengths and hopes to make a collage that reflects who they are. 1-3pm. $27. Fri Jul 4. Ages nine and over.

Shadow Puppetry: Make a puppet, write a show and film it to show off to the family on YouTube. 10am-noon. $35. Wed Jul 9. Ages six and over.

African Drumming: Journey from Guinea to West Africa with your djembe. 1pm-2pm. $20. Mon Jun 30 & Tue Jul 8. Ages five and over.

Mayibuye Dance Forum: Learn ballet, hip-hop, jazz and cultural dancing, then perform to family and friends. 9.30am-3pm. $60. Mon Jul 7. Ages nine and over.

Using Art to Express Yourself with Melbourne Art Therapy Studio: Let the feelings flow through paint, clay and pastels with the help of a registered art therapist. 1-4pm. $55. Wed Jul 2. Ages eight and over.

Hula Hoop Dance Stars: Earn your Dance Star certificate by learning 12 hula hoop tricks. 11am-noon. $20. Thu Jul 3. Ages five and over.

Circus Stars: Stun your family with a spectacular performance at the end of the day. 1pm-3pm. $35. Thu Jul 3.

Get Craft with Candy Sparkles: A whole day of crafts: think of how many loom bands, origami cranes, mobiles and other creations that you could make! 10am-4pm. $140, including lunch. Fri Jul 11. Ages four and over.
