David McAllister rearranges The Johnston Collection

This event has finished

Experience the sumptuous Fairhall house-museum through the lens of classical ballet

When prominent 20th century collector and antiques dealer William Johnston (1911-1986) allowed his home to be opened to the public, it was his wish that each room be regularly rearranged. Fairhall, the house-museum comprising Georgian, Regency and Louis XV art, has since been rearranged by prominent fashion designers, architects and artists.

Until June, witness Fairhall through the eyes of David McAllister – Artistic Director of the Australian Ballet. McAllister is known for reinterpreting major ballets in new contexts, and has based his rearrangements of each room in Fairhall on a classical ballet. The sumptuous White Room will evoke the vengeful love and opium dreams of the French ballet La Bayadere, with the added presence of several ballet costumes.

Tours take place throughout the day, and bookings are essential. Talks from David McAllister occur on various days: visit the website for the full schedule.
