Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

Vardos are far from your standard stringed group: no one does gypsy and folk music like these guys. They developed their unique musical talents roaming eastern Europe with Roma (gypsy) musicians through Transylvanian villages and Hungarian music schools. The trio features Alana Hunt on the wild fiddle, Sofia Chapman playing accordion, and Kirri Buchler clutching her double bass. Turned into a quartet, they are joined by the only Australian cimbalom maestro,Tim Meyen (fyi for us less-worldly folk, the cimbalom is a large, trapezoidal box with metal strings stretched across its top). After being nominated and shortlisted for Aria, Golden Fiddle and BBC Radio3 World Music awards, Vardos are sure to put on a spectacular show. Delicious crepes are available also!
