Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

Imagine if we didn’t make the music, but the microphone did? It’s not as looney as it sounds, actually that’s exactly what Transducer is all about. Microphones are transducers, as are speakers and they are both taking centre stage at the Sidney Meyer Music Bowl. Robin Fox and Speak Percussion composer Eugene Ughetti have gotten together to redefine the microphone’s function, transforming it into an instrument. Boy do they make some crazy music.

Their work is about uncovering some unexplored characteristics of transducers and about how sound-energy is captured, transformed and reproduced from microphone to speaker. They use weird new “instruments” and spatial performance to explore the bounds of sound, and it will all be projected through eight different speakers surrounding the audience. Sounds fun. The show will also incorporate a rare performance of 'MIKROPHONIE I', first composed in 1964.
