If it’s possible to distil Neil Young’s 1972 album Harvest into one perfect day, then this brand new music festival might just succeed
Out on the Weekend is a day-long, family friendly celebration of Americana music, great booze and tasty food to be held on the waterfront venue Seaworks in Williamstown. The festival takes its name from the first track from Neil Young's Harvest, and really, the song’s warm harmonicas and steel guitars tell us all we need to know about the sort of chilled-out vibe that the organisers are going for here.
The Canadian folk superstar himself won’t be playing, but the lineup is an impressive mixture of American and Australian country artists. Headlining the day is award-winning Nashville-based old-country revivalist Justin Townes Earle, Aussie eccentric showman Henry Wagons, as well as Ryan Bingham, Robert Ellis & Jonny Fritz, Lindi Ortega, Nikki Lane & the Delines, Jonny Fritz, Emma Swift, Chris Altmann, Raised by Eagles and the Morrisons.
Kids under 12 get free entry. Early bird tickets go on sale on Friday July 25 for $79, but there are also special 'Cripple Creek ferry' packages going, too. For $199, you can catch a ferry from the Docklands where you’ll enjoy live bands, and receive meal and beverage vouchers.
