Time Out Melbourne

This event has finished

Melbourne Guitar Quartet honour two of Australia's most prominent composers in guitar music, Nigel Westlake and Robert Davidson, in a one-hour performance of guitar compositions.

The ensemble are great believers in the legitimisation of the guitar in chamber music and perform on baritone, bass, treble and octave guitars as well as using a range of string qualities and resonant builds to create new levels of depth to the instrument's use.

The performance explores the work of the composers through not just conventional guitar work but an abundance of ambient constructions and a powerful approach to stillness. The quartet will rely on a range of different guitars as well as percussive accompaniment and Ron Murray on didgeridoo.
