Fancy seeing your favourite Melbourne acts transplanted to a dappled sunshiny riverside paradise? Now in its second year, the annual Echuca event requires a roadtrip (nearly three hours from Melbourne), but in return offers Clare Bowditch, Joe Camilleri, Pete Murray, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Tim Rogers and James Reyne beneath the towering Murray red gums, plus plenty of up-and-comers. It’s not a camping festival, so you can choose your own digs – pick from a host of local caravan parks, units and B&Bs. Riverboats is one of the cheapest three-day festivals going round, and even has a family pass. No discount if the cockies disrupt the sunset performers, but hey, isn’t that what getting out of the city is all about?
