Live music is just the tip of the iceberg at this well-worn local
It’s the quintessential live music venue to all Gen Y kids, but it’s much more than that. The Corner Hotel is an iconic pub. Sometimes it smells funny and the carpets will always be sticky, and you’ve probably snuck in without ID, but that’s why we love it. It also doesn’t hurt that you might see your favourite band drinking in the front bar because the green room is a little crappy. You’ll see everyone from your dirty rocker types, bikers, hip-hoppers, groupies, uni students and young families with kids at the Corner, but the best thing is, they all get along. There’s nothing exceptionally crafty going on with the beers, – everyone’s drinking pints or stubbies of Carlton, Melbourne Bitter or Mountain Goat in the front bar – but they’re definitely crowd-pleasers as no one seems to be complaining. Food-wise, it’s a little more refined upstairs. Out front, diners are more interested in throwing down a quick feed before flinging themselves about in the band room. It’s standard pub fare like chicken parmas, bangers and mash, steak sandwiches and risottos. You can even order a side of rich brown onion gravy to ensure your meal sticks to your ribs. There are no airs and graces here. It’s the Corner, and that’s the way we like it.
