With truffle season upon us, here's where to go to indulge in the gourmet fungi

Australia, now the world’s fourth largest producer of black truffles, is hyping up the edible fungi this July with a two-day truffle fest of stories, tastings, demonstrations and live music. Melbourne's best chefs take the stage for a weekend showcasing their truffle skills and sharing their truffle secrets. Relax and enjoying some of the finer things (Champagne and caviar included), and you haven’t been able to pawn off the kids for the day, they’ve got mock truffle hunts with truffle-hunting dogs around the racecourse to keep them entertained.

Saturday features a list of top chefs including Rory Cowcher (Cutler & Co), Zac Nicholson (Rockpool Bar & Grill) and Ashley Hicks (Circa The Prince) to name a few. Plus there'll be a truffled salami-making masterclass with Guy Grossi and Dom Marzano from Grossi Florentino.

Sunday’s program includes presentations by celebrity chef Manu Feildel as well as Sara Hinchey (the truffle hound) showing us how to prepare truffle dishes at home, and Philippe Mouchel (Truffle Melbourne's exec chef).

Saint Crispin's Truffle Dinner
It’s rare that an ugly edible fungi gets so much love but the truffle is a surprising winter delicacy. To celebrate this known aphrodisiac, Saint Crispin is offering a five-course dinner in their private dining room where the truffle is the feature ingredient. The Australian truffle season runs only from June to August so take advantage of this earthy treat while it’s still available. Saint Crispin, Wed Aug 6.

Madame Truffles Pop-Up Shop
Madame Truffles has taken over the space opposite St Ali for a month where she will be slinging the mother of all funky fungi, the truffle. Australian-harvested truffles of up to 200g in size will be for sale. You can get truffle-infused stuff too: everything from butter to salt to cheese to pasta. This year, there's going to be some new, sweeter, truffle-infused snacks to take home too, such as macarons and ice cream. St Ali, Thu-Sat till Aug 14.
