Get down to the Royal Mail for some native steak and red wine action
Every Wednesday night at the Royal Mail is 'Roadkill Dinner' night. Not a single animal on the rotating menu is actually roadkill (and the dudes working the pans here are legit chefs, not toothless cowboys), so even though the meats are not your run-of-the-mill, you won't need a Bear Grylls attitude to wrangle one onto your fork. Roo and emu are some of the more staid offerings on the menu, which features one unusual beast a week prepared and served up with matching wine.
The co-owner flies a small plane across the Bass Strait to pick up fresh-from-the-wild meat that you've never heard of, like Flinders Island wallaby and muttonbirds. Other species include wild rabbit, to camel, to Tasmanian possum. Talk about a good game.
