Put your money where your mouth, at this charitable café venture
Practice snack-tivism in style at Footscray’s brand-spanking new Reading Room Café. For eight weekends from April 7th, the campus coffee stop will be opening up to run as a pop-up-for-charity café, serving up the Reading Room’s classy campus menu for a good cause.
Kitchen boss man Ingo Meissner (of café Übermensch St Ali) elevates the Reading Room above your average hole-in-the-wall, with a literary menu featuring the likes of Fellini's Understudy: a romping salad of prosciutto, figs, parmesan, poached egg and a sweet paprika dressing. And to pair with your rhubarb topped Goldilocks porridge, how about some cold drip or a Chompy blend espresso from Sensory Lab? Not bad for a uni den. Better still when you know that one-fifth of the proceeds from your bill will be donated to a community nominated charity.
If you want in on choosing the charities and not-for-profit organisations who will benefit from the program, head to the Reading Room Facebook page. In return, you get the chance to win a meal for you and a friend (assuming you have friends).Every weekend will see a different charity represented, starting off with the Royal Children’s Hospital.
There’s not a hell of a lot of ways you can feel good about yourself on a cotton-mouthed Sunday morning, but this is one of them.
