Cocktail degustations are all the rage. Excellent den of drinks EDV started the trend for pairing food with hard liquor last year, and for the past month, Shannon Bennett has been offering a matched dinner every Friday at Café Vue.
Now, Michael Lambie and Scott Borg at the Smith are doing it for the southside, matching Lambie's wildly international menu with, well, Southsides. It's just one of the new initiatives the team behind this bright and breezy Prahran venue are implementing in their move to shake the gastro-pub label.
Lambie has put together a 'food safari' of bites with booze that include oysters paired up with Bloody Marys, Asian kingfish, chilli and lime sashimi served with a Yakuza cocktail, and a Mexi' tortilla of soft shelled crab, jalapenos and black beans matched to a Pisco Sour. It's a six course, six cocktail affair for $120, and if you head in on a Friday or Saturday you'll also get a pass to dance club One Six One. Which will come in handy if you can still walk.
