Celebrated chefs, restaurateurs and winemakers pay homage to mother nature in this year's Earth-themed festival
If you've ever done the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival you'll know it's a gastronomic marathon. This year, Melbourne will be pounded with deliciousness for 17 days straight (March 1-17) by every chef worth his or her salt from Australia to Denmark.
The theme for 2013 is Earth – yes, the festival has themes now, just like Tropfest – and that means you can expect to find the world's keenest dirt lovers including Ben Shewry, who loves a good ground roast, Matt Wilkinson: veggie-fondler, and Michael Stadtlander, the Canadian farmer-chef-activist, wearing gumboots and talking produce.
Then there's the long interactive chef dinners; the longer lunches in the bush and the weird happenings like the Everleigh cocktail crew commandeering the Colonial Tram Restaurant for a boozy dinner.
Tickets are on sale now, and while the premium events will punch a hole through your pocket, they're usually always worth it.
