Roman Greco yum cha

Greek-Italian yum cha hey? Why not?

First published on 4 May 2012. Updated on 21 Jun 2012.

Culinary traditions collide at Mama Baba – George Calombaris’ new Toorak venture. It's already a Greek-Italian mash-up, but now Calombaris is putting a bit of an Asian spin on Sunday's lunch service. Mediterranean food will be served yum cha style. Go figure.

Chicken feet do not feature, but a bevy of antipasto/meze, pasta and sweet treats will be proffered, with the yum cha format meaning the food is ideal for sharing. Chef Dominic Pipicelli’s menu, featuring some brand-new creations to add to the teensy-schnitzel burger and pasta heavy offerings that make up the normal menu, will change on a weekly basis.

Wash it all down with bespoke cocktails of the day, suggested by Mama Baba’s adept sommeliers and bartenders, at an eminently reasonable $8 a glass (or $25 a jug, for the thirsty). Buon appetito, and kali orexi.

Every Sunday noon-3pm. $25/$40 child/adult.
