A South Melbourne café turns their attention to burgers and brews
It is a truth universally acknowledged that there are few better combinations than a Friday night, a few cold beers and a big, tasty burger. Fact. We even reckon Jane Austin said something (to that effect) once.
And now you can not only get these two weekend welcomers at South Melbourne coffee hub Dead Man Espresso, you can also still get coffee. Y'know to really make sure you've got all your uppers and downers covered. ‘Beer Burger Brew’ night kicks off at knock-off time each Friday, so the hungry and the thirsty can enjoy the view from Dead Man’s balcony while fuelling up for the weekend ahead.
Four types of burgers are on offer: two beef (one called ‘Swampy’, in a moving tribute to dour former Test batsman Geoff Marsh), one lamb, and - in good news for the ethical burger-eater - one vegetarian. All are garnished with various shrubbery, much of which comes from Dead Man’s own rooftop garden. There is a large selection of local and international beers and wines to choose from. What a way to live!
More and more cafés are becoming nocturnal party dens, and we're all for it.
